When it comes to underground Hip-Hop I put Mf Doom at the top. Not only is he a lyrical genius, producer, collaborator, master of disguise, and a food lover, rapping about food all the time he’s a survivor. He struggled in the industry after the loss of his brother subroc, a member of KMD and consequently their second album “Black Bastards” was never released due to the group being dropped by Elektra records less than a week after the loss of his brother.  This unfortunate turn of events sent Doom in a downwards spiral of depression and living on the Manhattan streets for years.  He then struggled and fought back doing live shows at small venues covering his face with nylons so he wouldn’t be recognized which led to his use of the metal mask which he wears almost all the time in videos and shows.  This led to the name MF Doom.  The MF stands for metal face and the mask looked just like the menacing marvel comics villain DR.Doom. Doom went on to garnish some commercial success when he teamed up with producer Madlib to create the album “Madvillainy”.  As well he had a respected underground career that many such as myself consider to be one of the best rappers of our time.

After KMD Doom created many different alias’s,  Madvillain, Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah, DangerDoom, and keeps creating more alter ego’s with something else to say.  I love his creativity and hope he keeps creating music and alias’s because it makes for great Hip-Hop.
